Overall BvS is catered to people who like dark, mature, storytelling, over the more common lighthearted storytelling of most superhero films. This film constantly out does itself, every time I thought it wouldn't get darker it did, and the ending will shock most, unless you're familiar with a certain comic book storyline involving Doomsday. He understands that sometimes killing is nessecary, and he aims for brutal efficiency over making sure the people he's fighting survive. He is older and doesn't adhere to the no kill rule he usually has. The second half focuses on the titular battle and the Dawn of Justice itself. This version of Batman might upset some. This half will seem slow to some, but it would be unrealistic if the Battle of Metropolis, and its body count wasn't addressed. The first half focuses on the aftermath of Man of Steel, as it should. This was an excellent movie, but definitely not for people who want non-stop action or humor. This film chucks away staple mainstays in the universe and just throws contrived nonsense at you from start to finish with no continuity to the franchise or it's charecters making it into a feckless, and gloriously overpriced train wreck.
This movie is a perfect example of how, without all the CG, it would implode as an unintelligable mess. There is no reason to watch this movie twice between the tedium and the severe plotholes that plague almost every aspect of the movie. These are stripped down versions of the, stable, heroic personalities that made them beloved by fans and the fun factor is replaced with sluggish dialogue and a way too drawn out script. A couple of action sequences aside (aka-Batman playing super ninja), the charecters and plot are so insulting and unnecessary that it fails to be truly engaging. You can literally make a movie about how bad this movie was. Source material slaughtering aside, there are even boring rehashes and overdone, out of place dream sequences thrown in to add to the confusion and runlength. Worst of all, Lex Luthor is now a twitchy Joker rip off and doesn't come off as the swag, intelligent, collected villain that rivals Superman. The whole plot is simply forced and paper thin. Superman is stripped down as a waffling pouter who has a fraction of his powers used in the film and is not the "Truth and Justice" character of old. Batmans portrayal here is as an out of place, irrational, emotionally violent spaz. I'm a big fan of the recent surge of comic book heroes.but I have to be honest. Completely out of character, but there are multiple points in the movie where Batman shoots, knifes, blows up people, and brands them with hot iron.ĭefinitely not recommended, not just for kids, but adults either. This is not anything you'll typically see in Batman comics, or even in the previous three Batman movies. If this is the prelude to a bigger, multi-superhero franchise, DC should take a look at other comic movies and realize that they know should have some fun with the characters and lighten things up a bit.Īlso, Batman, several times in this movie, uses guns and kills people.
Its like the director forgot this is a comic book movie. Can someone crack a joke or appear to be happy just once in this movie? I understand Batman is a dark character, but the darkness of this movie extends to every character. With the long run time of 2.5 hours, this gets tedious after a while. At no point is anything fun here - everyone and everything is dark and very depressing. While I came in expecting violence (which there is a lot of), I wasn't expecting the relentless depression of this movie. There are references sex trafficking, and subtle references to Lex Luthor's father molesting him later in the movie. The bathtub scene that supposedly "only shows a leg and back" is much more risque than that. This was WAY beyond those in adult themes and content. I've taken my kids (under 13) to both PG-13 Marvel Avengers movies with no problems. I felt that even though its a PG-13, its a "hard" PG-13.very close to R territory. I think that the common sense review under estimates how rough this movie may be for younger viewers. Keeping Kids Motivated for Online Learning.
